Nikon D700 Wins the CAMERA GRAND PRIX 2009 Readers Award

Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce that the Nikon D700 digital-SLR camera has been awarded the CAMERA GRAND PRIX 2009 Readers Award.
This award was established last year to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Camera Grand Prix. Selected through polling of general users during the Photo Imaging Expo (PIE) 2009 held in Tokyo, March 26–29, this award recognized the great popularity of the D700 with a majority of general users. Last year, the Nikon D3 was the recipient of this award as well as the CAMERA GRAND PRIX 2008 Camera of the Year, giving Nikon digital-SLR cameras the honor of winning these prestigious awards two years in a row. The D700 is sold in Japan through Nikon Imaging Japan Inc., and has been extremely well received by users, primarily advanced amateur photographers, since its release last July
Primary reasons for Nikon D700 selection

The D700 is a digital-SLR camera equipped with the same large CMOS image sensor of 36.0 mm (h) X 23.9 mm (w) as the D3, which has been highly praised by professional photographers. It also offers great cost performance in a compact and lightweight body.Users who voted for the D700 were extremely pleased most notably with the camera's extraordinary image quality delivering outstandingly low noise characteristics at high sensitivities, its excellent cost performance, as well as its great flexibility and operability.
Nikon D700 major features
· 12.1 megapixel Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor (36.0 X 23.9 mm)
· Extremely wide sensitivity range of ISO 200 to 6400 that offers an extraordinary image quality at low sensitivity settings, while also delivering outstandingly low noise characteristics at high sensitivities. In addition, sensitivities can be increased up to the equivalent of ISO 25600 and decreased down to the equivalent of ISO 100.
· Quick response with a power-up time of approximately 0.12 seconds and a shutter release time lag of only 40 milliseconds (according to CIPA standards)
· Continuous shooting at up to 5 fps for up to 100 frames. When the optional Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D10 is used, high-speed continuous shooting at up to 8 fps is possible.
· High-speed image processing based on Nikon's exclusive comprehensive digital image processing concept, EXPEED
· The Scene Recognition System redefines the scope, accuracy and performance of autofocus, auto-exposure, and auto white balance control
· High-density 51-point AF system achieved with newly developed Multi-CAM3500FX autofocus sensor module
· Two built-in Live View modes: Tripod and Hand-held
· The highly durable shutter has passed release testing for 150,000 cycles
· Body made of extremely lightweight and durable magnesium alloy
· The Image Sensor Cleaning function, which vibrates the low-pass filter to remove dust and foreign matter

New DVD Technology

1.6 Terabytes on a single disc.

With hard drives hitting 2 TB, our dual-layer DVD burners are starting to look mighty limited. While Blu-ray Disc burners will be making their way into high-end computers soon, it won’t be long until even 50 GB seems puny.
Researchers from Melbourne's Swinburne University of Technology claims to have developed an optical recording technique that it says can place a theoretical 1.6 TB on a DVD-sized disc. This is done by adding extra dimensions to the recording surface.
To be precise, the extra dimensions are the wavelength and polarization of light, which integrate with the familiar three spatial dimensions creates true five-dimensional recording within one volume.
According to the journal article from Nature, “The new system makes use of surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-mediated photothermal reshaping of a substrate of gold nanorods immersed in a polymer layer. Crosstalk-free readout is via two-photon luminescence. Immediate applications can be found in security patterning and multiplexed optical storage.”
According to a BBC report, the Australian research team is now working with Samsung to develop a drive that can both read and write using the new method.
“The optical system to record and read 5-D is very similar to the current DVD system,” says James Chon, a co-author on the research. “Therefore, industrial scale production of the compact system is possible.”
All-new equipment is needed to manufacture discs on the new format, which is a barrier for the technology’s adoption. The researchers cite the eventual industry investment into the switch Blu-ray Disc as an example of how their technology could someday be crowned the next optical format.

Obsidian Journal

Everyday one is exposed to phishing, spam, spyware, malware and various other techniques whereby wicked criminals on the internet try to steal money from you. I didn’t open this particular email, but today in my inbox I saw one that reached a new low. The sender was Obsidian Journal. I guess that somehow these people know that I am a rock hound, and that I am indeed interested in geological things like the volcanic glass called obsidian. Maybe they know this from computer cookies.
The subject line read :-
Dear Beloved in Christ,
I am Mrs Latisis Fenard, suffuring from cancerous ailment. I was married to Mr. Robert Fenard,my husband worked with Chevron/Texaco in the United Kingdom for twenty years before he died in the year 2003.My late husband deposited the sum of £ 17.5 Million (Seventeen Million Five Hundred Thousand Pounds) with a Bank in United Kingdom.Recently,my Doctor told me that I have limited days to live due to the stroke and cancerous problems I am suffering from. I have decided to donate this funds to you and want you to use my husbands effort to fund the upkeep of widows and charities worldwide. I took this decision because, I do not have any child that will inherit this money and my husband relatives are bourgeois and very wealthy persons and I do not want my husband hard earned money to be misused.
Awaiting your urgent reply via my
email;latfenard01@gmail.com
With God all things are possible.
Yours Sister in Christ,
Mrs Fenard
Do these immoral people know that I have incurable cancer, and that in the past I was married? Maybe because at some point I searched on Google and other search engines for information related to the particular type of cancer that I have.
